Okay, here’s my retarded and rather late review of Morning Musume’s new album – ⑩ My Me. If you haven’t listened to or bought the album yet I hope my review helps you make a decision one way or another, although what with me being rubbish at doing things like this it’ll probably make you choose ‘another’ lol. Either way…’ave it!!!
Moonlight Night ~Tsukiyo no ban da yo~: I still don’t get what the “Electro Convulsive Therapy Part 1″ crap at the beginning is all about but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. Like most people it reminds me of Hinoi Team and even though I’ve only heard ‘Night Of Fire’ and ‘Everybody Dance’ I think the comparison to them is just great. I would rank this song up there with the awesomeness that is ‘Genki+’ when it comes to album opening songs and I seriously can’t wait to see it performed live as it’s just so cracky. This song is definitely gonna become my most top played songs on Last.fm, I can see it now!
Kimagure Princess: I wasn’t a huge fan of this song when it was released (hells, I only bought one copy) but this album has made me fall in love with it. Putting it in straight after ‘Moonlight Night’ was a mark of pure genius as the two songs fit together so well that the transition is really fluid. Just listening to the song makes me want to get up and do the dance, not that I can do the dance mind you…or makes me think of all the butt rubbing and boob thrusting. Mmmm…! It still doesn’t beat Nanchatte Renai as the best single on this album but it still takes a worthy second place.
Genki Pikappika: At first I didn’t like this song but it has definitely grown on me, although I’m still not overly enthused by it. I suppose it’s continuing with the Eurobeat vibe (I think) that’s going on through this album but it just feels so ‘regular’. Not that that’s a bad thing. I dunno, it’s just one of those songs that no matter how many times I play it I never really listen to it. It just doesn’t hold my attention. Shame…
Namidacchi: This song is so fucking random I love it <3 It starts out all calm and ballad like then sucker punches you in the face! Goes back to being all calm, then gives you another sucker punch with a side order of severe beating!!! The Morning Musume equivalent of Tourette’s possibly? The rapping part in the middle is pretty cool albeit slightly dodgy but that’s all part of the Morning Musume charm right? The only possible downside to this song is there’s not really much ‘emotion’ during it and quite often they sound like they’re just reading the words off the paper in a sing-songy way. I still love it though as it’s probably one of the few Morning Musume songs I could pull off at a karaoke bar.
“Come on, come on, argh, don’t stop!” – Okay Risa, I won’t stop :P
Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai: Seeing as I bought 4 copies of this single (one of each version) you would never of guessed that I don’t actually like the song. I’ve listened to this album a fair few times now and everytime this song comes on I sigh. One I will most definitely skip on future listens and definitely one that I don’t care to write too much about. In it’s defence I will say that the PV was incredibly good.
Ooki Hitomi: The 6th Gen track is another song with a slight Hinoi Team / Eurobeat vibe plus some 8-bit mixed in for good measure. Eri, Sayumi and Reina’s voices complement each other so well so I’m always glad when they team up for something and this track is no exception. They never fail to please <3 Hmm…I’m wondering what the choreography will be like for this song. I’d love me strobe and sexy club dancing. I doubt I’ll get it though (T_T) If you like this song I recommend you check out ‘Ringo Satsujin Jiken’ from Cover You and ‘Lemon Iro to Milk Tea’ from Resonant Live for more Rokkies awesomeness (^_^)
Ano hi ni Modoritai: After the amazing ‘Machi no Akari’ (Cover You) plus, to a degree, ‘Take of is Now’ and ‘Jounetsu no Kiss wo Hitotsu’ (Platinum 9 Disc) I was expecting amazing things from the 5th Gen duet but sadly I was left disappointed. It fails to grab my attention and just plods along with no stand out moments which is silly considering Ai is an amazing singer and Risa can do blinding well in the right situation. Why couldn’t they have something on the same level as the Rokkies song? Damn you Tsunku!!!
Nanchatte Renai: I have a real fondness for this song, no doubt because it was the one and only single that I’ve been to the release events for. The song sounds similar to Shouganai Yume Oibito although in my opinion is 10 times better. Well…I’m going to assume that people who read this review will know what this song sounds like so I won’t waste time reviewing it. I will just say that I love it immensely <3
Osaka Umainen: The 8th Gen song is trying to follow in the footsteps of ‘Guru Guru Jump’ (Platinum 9 Disc) yet manages to fail so miserably. Why? First up Lin Lin’s voice is not at all suited to this style of song and she sounds very forced throughout it’s entirety. Add to that the fact that it’s missing one very important spazzy song element – Crackaru – and it’s not looking good. At one point Aika tried to sing in Koharu’s distinct style which was incredibly retarded as she sounded crap and could never replace her. God this song is bad…
Loving You Forever: <3 <3 <3 I can see this ending up in the same ranks as ‘I Wish’ and ‘KoiING’ once it’s sung at more concerts (maybe as the final track). The chorus is heart warming although I always lol at the way the say ‘loving’ as they kinda say ‘woving’ (>_<) It doesn’t beat ‘Disney Love’ but still, if I didn’t know the song was called ‘Loving You Forever’ I wouldn’t have the foggiest idea of what they were saying. Now I’m picking faults with it which is unnecessary… It’s a great song and that’s all.
Shouganai Yume Oibito: The PV that accompanied this single really put me off of the song but I’m glad to say that I now love it. Out of their more recent style of singles it’s not as good as Nanchatte Renai even though they sound pretty similar. Hmm…I don’t really have much to say about it really. Moving on…
Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou? (Chinese Ver.): On Hello! Online I said I’d rather have a Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari 4 over this song but I’ve now changed my mind and would like to have both. This is effectively a Jun Jun and Lin Lin duet but who cares? It’s really beautiful and has been produced to a much higher standard then the original ‘Ame no Furanai…’ which is on Platinum 9 Disc as that one felt hollow / empty. I can see this version being used in sappy Chinese dorama’s…possibly. I want it played at my wedding, if Risa will let me. Ho ho ho.
♥♥♥
I will no doubt come and fiddle with this post in the next few days as it’s lacking a bit but still, these are my thoughts and feelings on this album. I’m currently deciding on whether I prefer this album over Platinum 9 Disc but if I was to be pushed I’d say that ⑩ My Me just takes the edge, possibly because of ‘Moonlight Night’ and ‘Nanchatte Renai’. This album is very much worth a download and if you’re going to push the boat out and buy a physical copy I would suggest you get the Regular Edition purely for the free photo card.
♥ Mmm…Risa thighs!!! ♥
